Weekend Roundup: Indiana teams hit the road for showcase action.

Zionsville defeats Carmel Blue back in Indiana

Several Central Indiana teams headed to Miami University in Ohio over the weekend for showcase action, while Zionsville and Carmel stayed closer to home for a Sunday matchup at Carmel Ice Skadium.

HSE

Hamilton Southeastern’s JV team had a difficult weekend, falling 14-0 to Hilliard JV on Friday night before dropping an 8-2 decision to the Miami Jr. RedHawks JV team Saturday.

Westfield

Westfield JV was scheduled for a busy weekend as well. The Ice Rocks fell to Hilliard's JV team 13-1 Saturday night. Three other games were scheduled for Westfield, however, results from Friday's slated matchup with Dayton Stealth, Saturday's scheduled game against the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones, and Sunday's finale with the Miami Jr. RedHawks were unavailable.

South Stars

The South Stars varsity squad finished the showcase weekend 2-2 against a challenging slate.

The Stars opened Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones Red team before bouncing back later in the day with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Westerville Warcats with Grady Parsons in net.

South Stars carried that momentum into Sunday, edging the Miami Jr. RedHawks Silver team 3-2 before closing out the weekend with a narrow 2-1 loss to the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones 16U AA team.

Zionsville vs. Carmel Blue

Back in Central Indiana, Zionsville faced Carmel Blue Sunday afternoon at Carmel Ice Skadium and came away with a 4-1 win.

Cooper Hons made his first start in net for Zionsville, while Willie Gona powered the offense with two unassisted goals and two assists. Matt Beaupre and Jai’Shawn Ellis each added a goal for Zionsville.
