Lake Central Prep kept finding ways to score. Different lines, different situations, different opponents—the result stayed the same.
Over four games at the Illiana Crossover on Oct. 23–25, Lake Central scored 31 goals, allowed five and never finished with fewer than seven goals in a game. Connor Friesema delivered an eight-goal, 14-point weekend, but the production extended well beyond one player.
It was the most prolific offensive showing in a weekend controlled by Lake Central, Munster Red, Crown Point Red and the visiting Leo Lions. Those four teams combined to go 15–0–1 against Brebeuf Jesuit, Central Indiana Knights A, Evansville and Zionsville, outscoring them 102–20.
Only the Knights interrupted a sweep, closing their weekend with a 2–2 tie against Crown Point behind Matthew Thomas’ 50 saves.
Across games at Kube Sports Complex and Midwest Training & Ice Center, the crossover showcased dominant offenses, strong goaltending and, for some younger teams, progress that required looking beyond the final scores.
Lake Central opened Friday with a 9–0 win over Brebeuf, then beat Central Indiana Knights A 7–3 and Evansville 7–1 on Saturday before finishing with an 8–1 victory over Zionsville on Sunday.
Friesema recorded hat tricks against Brebeuf and Evansville, finishing the weekend with eight goals and six assists. His production earned him THE FINAL.’s Player of the Week recognition.
He had plenty of support.
Rowan Garvey added six goals and six assists, including a hat trick against the Knights. Hudson Morris scored six goals of his own, finishing with three against Zionsville.
The Knights provided Lake Central’s closest game. Central Indiana cut the deficit to 3–2 with 4:44 remaining in the second period, but Johnathan Jamicich answered on the power play 42 seconds later. Morris scored before the intermission, and Lake Central added two more early in the third.
That response captured the challenge of facing Lake Central: even when an opponent found an opening, another wave of offense followed.
Crown Point entered its final game having scored 28 goals in three wins.
The Bulldogs beat Brebeuf 8–3, overwhelmed Zionsville 13–0 and shut out Evansville 7–0. Against Central Indiana Knights A, they generated another 52 shots.
Thomas stopped 50 of them.
Zachary Hsiao gave the Knights a first-period lead before Crown Point’s Rocco Di Silvestro and Louie Rodawold scored 30 seconds apart in the second. Parks Lindley pulled Central Indiana even with 13:40 remaining in the third, assisted by Quinn Ridgeway.
Thomas stopped all 21 Crown Point shots in the final period, preserving the 2–2 tie despite a 52–19 shot disadvantage.
The result capped a weekend in which the Knights repeatedly pushed stronger opponents. They also fell 5–3 to Leo and 3–1 to Munster.
For Crown Point, the tie followed several major offensive performances. Nathan Vukadinovich finished with five goals and nine assists, matching Friesema’s 14 points. Di Silvestro contributed six goals and five assists, including a four-goal, four-assist game against Zionsville.
Munster Red allowed the fewest goals of any team at the crossover, conceding just four while winning all four games.
Its toughest test came against Evansville.
The Thunder scored three times in the first period to take a 3–2 lead. Munster answered in the second, with Matthew Pavich tying the game before Ethan Lopez scored the eventual winner with 4:00 remaining.
Munster held Evansville scoreless over the final two periods to secure the 4–3 victory.
The Mustangs also beat Zionsville 8–0, Central Indiana Knights A 3–1 and Brebeuf 3–0. Alexander Bogner recorded both shutouts, stopping a combined 29 shots against Zionsville and Brebeuf.
Jordan Cook scored five goals across the weekend, including both of Munster’s first two goals against the Knights.
Leo completed its own four-game sweep, beating Evansville 5–2, Brebeuf 6–1, Central Indiana Knights A 5–3 and Zionsville 7–0.
Jackson Crawford scored in every game, finishing with six goals and three assists. His Sunday hat trick against Zionsville helped close the weekend emphatically.
Wyatt Knudson added five goals and four assists, while Liam Ferrell contributed two goals and seven assists. All three finished with nine points.
The Lions also scored seven power-play goals across the four games, using special teams to help create separation.
For a young Brebeuf team still finding its identity, the weekend brought difficult results alongside signs of growth.
Brebeuf opened with a 9–0 loss to Lake Central Prep on Friday, followed by losses to Leo, 6–1, and Crown Point Red, 8–3, on Saturday. The team closed the crossover with a 3–0 loss to Munster Red on Sunday.
Despite the losses, Brebeuf showed signs of progress in how it finished games. The team played Leo even, 1–1, in Saturday’s third period, then held Munster scoreless in Sunday’s final period while matching the Mustangs’ seven shots.
Landon Thompson stopped 29 of 32 shots in that 3–0 loss.
Saturday also produced a milestone: freshman Henry Kirk scored his first varsity goal against Crown Point, assisted by Samuel Nefouse.
Brebeuf finished without a win, but with a clearer example of the effort and resilience it can carry forward. Against a demanding crossover field, a young team began showing it could keep its intensity when the game went against it.
